Marrakech is a walled medina with a modern city around it, and the riad, a house built inward around a courtyard, is the form the old city takes. It is not a hotel with a different name: it faces away from the street by design, which is the whole point and also why it is quiet.
The medina rewards being walked and does not reward being driven. Navigation is genuinely hard for the first two days and then suddenly is not.
The High Atlas starts about an hour away and most visits treat it as a day trip, which wastes it. The valleys above Imlil and the Ourika are a different country, at a different altitude and temperature, and they deserve nights rather than hours.

Getting There
Marrakech Menara (RAK) sits close to the city and transfers are short. Cars cannot reach most medina riads, so the last stretch is on foot with a porter and a cart. Arrange the meeting point with the riad in advance, because addresses in the medina are not useful to a driver.
