Peloponnese weather month by month, and what it means for a trip

This is a guide to the shape of the year rather than a table of temperatures. We do not publish figures we have not measured or cannot cite, and averaged climate numbers copied between websites are exactly the sort of thing this site stopped doing.
What we can give you is the calendar the peninsula actually runs on, and one piece of physics that changes trips.
The sea lags the air by about two months
Water has far more thermal mass than air, so it heats and cools much more slowly. The Mediterranean is coldest in March, not January, and warmest in late August and September, not July.
If swimming is the point, September beats June. Same coast, warmer water, fewer people. Every year people book June for the sea and get a landscape holiday with a cold swim in it.
The working year, as one operator publishes it
The Diros Caves at Pyrgos Dirou are state-operated and publish their own seasonal calendar, which is the closest thing the region has to an official statement of its season. As published on their site and checked on 24 August 2026:

That calendar is the peninsula's, not just the cave's. The working year is April to October.
Month by month, practically
January to March. Low season. Taygetos carries snow. The peninsula is at its greenest and emptiest and most of what is not a hotel is shut.
April. Mid season opens on 1 April and everything shifts. Wildflowers, running water in the gorges, hills that are the colour of grass rather than the colour of rock. The sea is genuinely cold. This is the connoisseur's month.
May. The best compromise if you want the flowers and some warmth.
June. High season from the 1st. Sea usable from mid-month, everything open, heat not yet the organising fact of the day. The second half of June is the recommendation with no trade attached.
July and August. Hot, and busy by local standards. Everything is running, which matters more here than in a well-served destination. Deep Mani becomes a morning and evening proposition rather than a day one: it is limestone with almost no tree cover and the rock reflects heat upward as well as holding it.
September. Warmest water of the year, better light than August, crowds thinning from the first week.
October. Mid season to the 31st. The first half is excellent. The second half is a lottery on what has closed.
November. The olive harvest, and the single best reason to come out of season. Accept that dinner will be a short list.
December. Quiet, green and largely shut outside the towns.
The shoulder-season problem nobody mentions
In April and October the weather is not the question. What is open is the question, and in this region it can be an unanswerable one from home.
Two things follow. Ask your accommodation the week before you arrive, because they know and they have every reason to tell you. And in the shoulder months, favour one base over two: being somewhere long enough that people know you is worth more than seeing more.
