Le Petit Palais is neither petit nor a palais - it is 1,200 square metres of reclaimed Alpine timber, hand-carved stone, and Italian leather spread across four floors on the Bellecote piste. The chef, formerly of La Bouitte in Saint-Martin-de-Belleville (three Michelin stars), runs the kitchen for the full season. The spa floor includes a 12-metre pool, Japanese onsen, cryotherapy chamber, and a massage suite. Ski-in/ski-out access means the gondola queue is someone else's problem. Courchevel 1850 is the most expensive ski resort in the world, and Le Petit Palais is one of its most impressive chalets. The ironic name is part of the appeal - this is a property that does not take itself too seriously despite offering everything a serious skier or a non-skiing companion could want. Four floors are connected by a glass-enclosed lift and a staircase of hand-carved Savoyard stone, and every detail has been considered: heated boot warmers in the boot room, individual temperature controls in each bedroom, and a sound system that extends from the living room to the pool deck. The chef is the cornerstone of the experience. His training at La Bouitte - the three-Michelin-star restaurant in nearby Saint-Martin-de-Belleville - shows in menus that elevate Savoyard ingredients to a level that rivals the resort's own fine dining restaurants. Breakfast is substantial (the French Alpine version includes charcuterie, cheeses, and pastries alongside eggs and cereals). Afternoon tea is served at four. Dinner is a four-course affair, typically featuring local beaufort cheese, Savoie wines, and desserts built around seasonal fruits and Valrhona chocolate. Eight bedrooms are distributed across two upper floors. The master suite occupies a corner position with mountain views on two sides, a dressing room, and a bathroom with a freestanding bathtub and a separate rainfall shower. Three rooms have direct balcony access; two are configured as interconnecting family suites. All feature Italian leather headboards, Swiss-made mattresses, and Egyptian cotton linens. The spa floor is a destination in itself. The 12-metre pool is set against a glass wall overlooking the piste, and the water is maintained at 30 degrees year-round. The Japanese onsen - a deep soaking tub at 40 degrees - is the post-skiing ritual that guests return for. The cryotherapy chamber hits minus 120 degrees for three-minute sessions that accelerate muscle recovery. A resident massage therapist is available throughout the season. Ski-in/ski-out on the Bellecote piste puts the chalet at the centre of the 3 Vallees ski area - the world's largest interconnected ski domain with 600 kilometres of pistes. The dedicated ski concierge arranges guides for off-piste excursions in the Couloir Tournier or the Grand Couloir, and the Courchevel heliski operation departs from a pad 200 metres from the chalet.
