Chalet Grands Montets sits at the base of the Grands Montets ski area in Argentiere, Chamonix's most serious ski village and the access point for some of the steepest in-bounds terrain in the Alps. The chalet's position, directly beside the Bochard gondola, means guests can ski from the front door to the lift and return at the end of the day via the Retour piste that passes the property's boundary. Argentiere attracts a different crowd from Chamonix town: fewer tourists, more committed skiers, and a village atmosphere that centres on a single main street with a bakery, a couple of restaurants, and a hardware shop that has been selling mountaineering equipment since the 1960s. Chalet Grands Montets is designed for guests who share this orientation. Six bedrooms are arranged around a central stairwell of raw concrete and reclaimed timber. The design is industrial-alpine: exposed steel beams, concrete floors with underfloor heating, timber cladding on the bedroom walls, and oversized windows facing the Argentiere glacier. The master suite features a glass wall that frames the glacier's seracs and crevasses with the same drama as a gallery installation. The boot room, positioned at piste level, is purpose-built: heated racks for 16 pairs of boots, individual equipment cages, a ski-tuning bench with a waxing iron and edge tools, and a drying system that has everything ready by morning. A dedicated entrance from the piste means no snow enters the main living spaces. The living room, dining area, and open kitchen occupy a double-height space on the main floor, centred on a steel-and-glass fireplace. A sauna, a hot tub, and a small gym occupy the basement. The chef's menus lean toward fuel for active days: substantial breakfasts, packed lunches for the mountain, and protein-rich dinners with Savoyard wines. Chamonix town is a 5-minute drive; the Vallee Blanche and Aiguille du Midi are accessible via the Grands Montets or from Chamonix.
