Argentiere is where Chamonix's serious skiers and mountaineers base themselves, away from the town centre's tourist bustle. This chalet sits in the village centre, a five-minute walk from the Grands Montets lift and the valley's best off-piste terrain. The design is deliberately stripped back: concrete floors, steel-framed windows, and a wood-burning stove rather than an elaborate fireplace. A large boot room and drying area reflect the property's function-first approach. Argentiere occupies a peculiar position in the Chamonix valley. It is not the main town - that is Chamonix itself, 8 kilometres to the south - and it does not have the infrastructure of a major resort. What it has is the Grands Montets: 2,700 metres of some of the most challenging and rewarding skiing in the Alps, with access to the legendary off-piste terrain of the Pas de Chevre, the Glacier d'Argentiere, and the Couloir en Y. Serious skiers know that staying in Argentiere means being first on the lift when conditions are right. The chalet's design reflects this sensibility. Where many luxury chalets in the Alps prioritise opulence over function, Chalet Argentiere does the opposite. The polished concrete floors are easy to clean after a day in ski boots. The steel-framed windows are industrial-grade, designed to withstand the Argentiere valley's winter storms. The wood-burning stove - a Danish cast-iron model rather than a decorative stone fireplace - throws genuine heat into the living room. Everything is built to work, not to impress. That said, the quality of materials and construction is evident throughout. The concrete is poured and polished to a mirror finish. The timber cladding on the bedroom ceilings is century-old reclaimed larch. The kitchen has a professional gas range, a walk-in larder, and enough workspace for the kind of communal cooking that ski holidays often inspire. Four bedrooms are arranged on two levels above the living area. All have ensuite bathrooms with walk-in showers (no bathtubs - this is a house for doers, not soakers). The master bedroom has a balcony facing the Aiguille Verte, and the two upper rooms share a smaller balcony with the same aspect. The fourth bedroom is on the ground level, adjacent to the boot room - practical for early starters who want to gear up without waking the rest of the house. The boot room and drying area are among the most practical in any chalet in the valley. Heated boot racks, ski storage for eight pairs, a gear drying system, and a workbench for edge tuning and waxing are included. A separate entrance from the street means snow and wet gear never enter the main living space. The village of Argentiere has a handful of restaurants, a boulangerie, and a cooperative ski shop. Chamonix's wider selection of restaurants and bars is a 10-minute drive or a 20-minute bus ride.
