Son Balagueret has been in continuous habitation since 1547. The current restoration preserves the original watchtower, stone oil press, and chapel while adding a 20-metre pool, professional kitchen, and climate-controlled wine cellar holding 800 bottles. The estate's 50 acres of olive and almond groves descend toward the coast, with a private trail leading to a rocky cove accessible only from the property. A staff of four manages the house, including a housekeeper who has worked the estate for 22 years. The watchtower dates from the estate's origins as a defensive position against Mediterranean pirates. It has been converted into a two-bedroom suite with 360-degree views from the top level and a reading room on the floor below. The stone walls are a metre thick, keeping the interior cool even when August temperatures push past 35 degrees. Staying in the tower feels like occupying a piece of Mallorcan history - because you are. Nine bedrooms are distributed across the main house, the watchtower, and two restored stone cottages in the olive grove. The cottages provide genuine independence for guests who want their own space: each has a kitchen, a sitting room with fireplace, and a private terrace. This makes Son Balagueret particularly well-suited to multi-generational family gatherings or groups of friends who want to be together for meals but separate otherwise. The wine cellar is carved into the rock beneath the original oil press room. The collection of 800 bottles leans toward Mallorcan and Spanish labels, with verticals from several Priorat and Ribera del Duero estates alongside a selection of Burgundy and Barolo. The cellar also functions as a tasting room, with a stone table seating 12 for private wine dinners arranged through the property's concierge. The private coastal trail descends through the olive groves for approximately 20 minutes to a rocky cove with crystal-clear water and no public access. The property supplies snorkelling equipment and keeps a pair of sea kayaks at the cove. For beach days on sand rather than rock, Cala Deia and Cala Tuent are within 25 minutes' drive along the Tramuntana coastal road. The professional kitchen is the social hub of the house. A chef can be arranged through the managing agent for daily meals, or the kitchen is fully equipped for guests who prefer to cook - many source ingredients from Soller's Saturday market or the Inca market on Thursdays. The herb garden behind the kitchen provides rosemary, thyme, and basil throughout the season.
