Finca Sa Tanca

Sa Tanca sits in the quieter eastern hills of Mallorca, where the Serres de Llevant meet the coast. The renovation kept the drystone walls and wooden shutters intact while inserting a clean-lined interior of polished concrete floors and linen upholstery. The pool terrace looks east over almond orchards to the sea, and a converted stable now serves as a yoga and fitness studio. The eastern hills represent a different Mallorca from the tourist-heavy southwest coast. Here, the landscape is gentler - rolling hills of almond and carob trees, small farms with drystone walls, and villages where the Saturday morning market is still a local affair rather than a tourist attraction. Sa Tanca captures this spirit. The property feels authentic rather than staged, and the pace of a stay here naturally slows to match the surroundings. The drystone walls of the original farmhouse are load-bearing and up to 80 centimetres thick. The renovation team worked with a local mason who specialises in traditional Mallorcan construction techniques. Where the old walls meet the new interior, the contrast is deliberate and striking: rough stone against smooth concrete, aged timber shutters against contemporary steel-framed windows. Four bedrooms are arranged to maximise both privacy and views. The two upper-level rooms have sea views on clear days; the two ground-floor rooms open directly onto the garden and the almond orchard. All four have ensuite bathrooms with locally made ceramic basins and walk-in rainfall showers. The converted stable is a genuine fitness space, not an afterthought. A sprung wooden floor supports yoga practice, and the equipment includes a Concept2 rower, free weights, and TRX suspension trainers. A visiting yoga instructor can be arranged for private sessions, and the terrace outside the studio is used for outdoor practice on calm mornings. The pool terrace is the property's social centre. An 18-metre pool sits at the eastern edge of the garden, with an unbroken view across the almond orchards to the sea. Sun loungers are spaced generously, and a shaded outdoor dining area with a built-in barbecue accommodates al fresco meals for eight. The nearest beaches - Cala Mesquida and Cala Agulla - are 15 minutes' drive through the hills.
