Located on a narrow sandbank island in the remote Raa Atoll, this beach villa occupies the island's western tip where the sand tapers to a natural point facing the sunset. The property includes a private PADI dive centre with a resident instructor, two traditional Maldivian dhonis for island-hopping, and an overwater dining platform positioned directly above a coral bommie that attracts eagle rays at dusk. The Raa Atoll is one of the Maldives' less developed atolls, with fewer resorts and more untouched reef systems than the popular North and South Male atolls. The remoteness is the point. Transfer from Male is by seaplane (45 minutes), and from the air the atoll appears as a ring of blue water studded with green islands and white sandbanks. Villa Raa Atoll's island is one of these sandbanks - narrow, elongated, and surrounded by a house reef that drops away to deep blue water on the western side. The western tip position means that nothing stands between the villa and the sunset. The sand tapers to a natural point that extends into the lagoon, and at low tide you can walk 100 metres along this point with water on both sides. The villa's main terrace faces this sunset point, and the overwater dining platform extends from the point into deeper water, positioned directly above a coral bommie that acts as a natural fish aggregation device. Four bedrooms are arranged in separate beach pavilions connected by wooden walkways above the sand. Each pavilion is thatched with coconut palm fronds in the traditional Maldivian style and fitted with ceiling fans, air conditioning, and open-air bathrooms with garden showers. The master pavilion sits closest to the tip and has a private plunge pool, an outdoor daybed, and a direct path to the beach. The private PADI dive centre is a significant feature for diving enthusiasts. The resident instructor leads daily dives at sites within a 30-minute boat ride, including thilas (submerged pinnacles) where grey reef sharks, Napoleon wrasse, and manta rays are regular visitors. Non-certified guests can take a PADI Open Water course during their stay - the calm, clear lagoon is an ideal learning environment. Snorkelling equipment, underwater cameras, and reef guides are also available. The two traditional Maldivian dhonis - wooden sailing vessels with lateen rigs - are available for island-hopping, sandbank picnics, and fishing excursions. Sailing a dhoni across the atoll, with no engine noise and only the wind and water for company, is one of the Maldives' most authentic experiences. The chef prepares meals in an open-air kitchen using the day's catch and produce from the island's small garden: curried reef fish, grilled lobster, coconut sambol, and fresh tropical fruit.
