Villa Baa Atoll is one of only three private residences on a 12-acre island in the Baa Atoll, a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve home to manta ray feeding stations and pristine coral reefs. The residence includes an overwater bedroom pavilion accessible by a 40-metre walkway, a private stretch of beach on the island's sunrise side, and an in-residence spa treatment room. A marine biologist is available for guided snorkelling excursions to Hanifaru Bay during manta season (June to November). The Baa Atoll earned its UNESCO Biosphere Reserve designation in 2011, primarily because of Hanifaru Bay - a natural amphitheatre in the reef where ocean currents concentrate plankton, attracting feeding aggregations of manta rays and whale sharks that can number in the hundreds. Villa Baa Atoll is one of the closest private residences to Hanifaru Bay, a 20-minute boat ride from the island's dock. During manta season, the marine biologist leads guided snorkelling excursions to the bay, timing visits to coincide with the tidal conditions that trigger the feeding events. The 12-acre island is shared with only two other residences, each positioned to be invisible from the others. Villa Baa Atoll occupies the island's eastern tip, with a private beach that catches the sunrise and a 180-degree view of open ocean. The residence's grounds include coconut palms, a tropical fruit garden, and pathways through native vegetation to the island's interior, where a small freshwater lake attracts herons and kingfishers. Six bedrooms are split between the main beach residence and the overwater pavilion. The main residence holds five bedrooms in a series of connected pavilions with thatched roofs, open-air bathrooms, and floor-to-ceiling wooden screens that slide open to admit the ocean breeze. The overwater bedroom pavilion, reached by a 40-metre wooden walkway over the lagoon, is a single suite with glass floor panels, a private plunge pool, and an outdoor shower positioned above the water. The in-residence spa treatment room is positioned at the edge of the beach, shaded by coconut palms. Treatments draw on both Maldivian and Ayurvedic traditions, using coconut oil, sandalwood, and local herbs. A visiting therapist is available for daily treatments during each stay. The spa also includes an outdoor relaxation deck with daybeds positioned to overlook the lagoon. A private chef prepares three meals daily, with menus built around the morning's seafood catch and produce brought from Male on the weekly supply boat. Grilled reef fish, tuna sashimi, coconut curries, and tropical fruit are the staples. The island's own herb garden provides basil, lemongrass, and chillies. Transfer from Male is by seaplane (35 minutes) or by domestic flight to Dharavandhoo airport followed by a 15-minute speedboat ride.
