Set within the Sandy Lane estate on Barbados's platinum west coast, this coral stone property commands 200 feet of beachfront with a private cabana on the sand. The estate includes guest membership at the Sandy Lane Golf Club (Green Monkey and Country Club courses), a full staff of eight including a Bajan chef specialising in Caribbean-European fusion, and a 60-foot pool flanked by mature mahogany trees. The property has hosted heads of state and prefers to keep its guest list confidential. The Sandy Lane estate is Barbados's most prestigious address. Gated and guarded, the estate occupies a stretch of the platinum west coast between Holetown and Paynes Bay, with properties set back from the beach among mature tropical gardens. Sandy Lane Estate is not the hotel (which sits adjacent), but the residential community of private villas that shares the hotel's beach, golf courses, and reputation. The distinction matters: staying in a villa here provides resort-level security and amenities with residential-scale privacy. The coral stone construction is a Barbadian tradition. Quarried on the island from fossilised coral limestone, the stone is naturally cool to the touch and maintains comfortable interior temperatures without excessive air conditioning. The walls of this property are a warm cream colour that deepens to gold in afternoon light. The architectural style is Palladian colonial - symmetrical facades, covered verandahs on all sides, and rooms arranged to channel the trade wind through the house. Ten bedrooms are arranged in the main house and two detached cottages. The main house holds seven bedrooms over two floors, with the master suite occupying a beachfront corner position with French doors opening onto a private verandah. The cottages, set in the garden 50 metres from the main house, each hold one bedroom suite with a sitting room and kitchenette - suitable for staff, security, or guests who want complete independence. The staff of eight has been with the property for an average of 12 years. The chef, who trained in London before returning to Barbados, produces menus that bridge European technique and Caribbean produce: grilled flying fish with a lime and scotch bonnet butter, blackened mahi-mahi with plantain puree, and a rum punch that has been refined over two decades. The butler manages the household, arranges restaurant reservations, and coordinates with the golf club for tee times. The Sandy Lane Golf Club membership is a substantial perk. The Green Monkey course, designed by Tom Fazio and built in an abandoned quarry, is one of the Caribbean's most exclusive and challenging courses - available only to hotel guests and estate residents. The Country Club course is a more accessible 18 holes, and the golf concierge arranges tee times, caddies, and equipment rental. The beach cabana, positioned on the sand in front of the property, provides shade, loungers, and a direct line to the kitchen for drinks and snacks.
